Show VETERAN SKI INSTRUCTORS REUNION 92 PARK CITY SKI AREA P.O. BOX 39 PARK CITY, UT 84060 September 9, 1992 The fifth Annual Veteran Ski Instructors' Reunion will be on December 11, 12, 13, 1992, at the Park City Ski Area. Last year we honored Afl Engen and otto Lang. otto couldn't attend last year, but promised to try to make the event this year. Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to also honor Friedl Pfeifer and Herbert Schneider. And we will have an Arlberg reunion. To many of us that began skiing and teaching decades ago, the Arlbergers were the center of skiing. This was before the French and the Swiss influence came. More than the Arlberg Technique, it was the individual teachers of the Hannes Schneider era that left the impression on our sport. I would like us to say thanks. The New England Ski Museum recently produced the 50th anniversary re-release of Dr c Quackenbush Skis the Headwall. This was a wonderful little movie filmed in 1942 by Sidney Shurcliff. It was filmed in the New Hampshire White Mountains with shots of ski personalities like Hannes Schneider, Toni Matt and Benno Rybizkasome of the original Arlbergers. We shall watch this 60 minute tape. We will send out the hotel information in October You may reach me by sending your correspondence to me in care of Kim Stevens at the above Park City address. Or you can reach me at 801+532- 1164 .. leave a message. On behalf of everyone, I again wish to extend my thanks to Phil Jones and the management at Park City Ski Area for making this reur.ion possible. Thanks to Kim Stevens also, for she has really helped in this endeavor .. and to Lou Lorenz and all our ski guides. Looking forward to seeing you in December. october 5, 1092 BILL LASH 44 W 300 S #1406 S Salt Lake City, UT 84101 TO: otto Lang, Friedl Pfeifer, Herbert Schneider FROM: Bill Lash Good morning: live talked with otto and Herbie about the 5th Annual Veteran Ski Instructor's Reunion, December 11, 12, 13, 1992, in Park City, UTe And otto tells me he has discussed this with Friedl. I realize this is an inconvenience for you to attend because of the dista~ce. Nevertheless, it would be a great tribute to ski teaching if you could all attend. The ski instructor's reunion was is five years old. It's purpose was to keep alive the early tradition started by people as yoursel ves. It is to renew old friendships, ski together, and enjoy ourselves. We have tried to avoid any scheduling or planning .. we simply ski together, have lunch, and hold an informal banquet on Saturday night. The reunion was an ideal of myself and Phil Jones and Lou Lorenz of the Park City Ski Area. Phil, an old ski school director, hosts the reunion, and it is his good hospitality that helps make i~ a success. We have been averaging about sixty people attending ~~e reunion. We will pay a small honor to you all for your contribution to ski teaching and the sport of skiing. It would be fitting to have the three Arlbergers attend, all inductees of the U. S. National Ski Hall of Fame ... and the latest nominee, Herbert Schneider. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Bill Lash |
