Pucci (b. 1898) was born in Italy. He came to this country in 1915 to work on the Southern Pacific railroad. He talks about section men and section houses, train accidents, Italians in Ogden, the Promontory station, the Lucin Cutoff, Italian social life, and a trip back to Italy. Interviewed by Greg Thompson and Phil Notarianni. 42 pages. |

Show -8- PUCCI . N: That sounds ••• And that was for eight hours? P: No, we worked a little bit longer than eight hours. I don't remember exactly. How did you find out about me? N: We talked with, do you know Burnice Houghton Gerristen, P: Yes. N: Mrs. Houghton had the store out at Promontory. P: Yes. N: Well, · .we talked with her yesterday and I asked her if there were any Italian section men out there and she said oh yes. There was one man named Cocci, and ·then she told me about you, and I asked her if you were still around and she said yes and so I wanted to ••• P: Oh, yes, I see, I ju~t wanted to ••• Now that fellow Cocci use to be section foreman up ?t Promontory and he lived in the Sparks now. N: Yes, that' what she told us. P: He's pretty well up in years too, see, he and I come from the same town. , \ N: She didn't know wllre he came from. P: He carne from the same town. Practically, practically in them day all the people working for the Southern Pacific, they practically all '\ ... from town, you know what I mean, close together there. T: Yes, in the old country they're from the same region. P: Yes, usually carne on boat and they get together, that's the way it used to be. N: Well, when you were working down there in the tressel how lon~ did you work there? P: I work there practically two years. t |
