Pucci (b. 1898) was born in Italy. He came to this country in 1915 to work on the Southern Pacific railroad. He talks about section men and section houses, train accidents, Italians in Ogden, the Promontory station, the Lucin Cutoff, Italian social life, and a trip back to Italy. Interviewed by Greg Thompson and Phil Notarianni. 42 pages. |

P: On the train, on the Great Salt Lake tressel. N: On the Great Salt Lake tressel? P: Yes. N: Can you remember who your section foreman was? P: Yes, I remember very well, a fellow of the name .of John Desanzi. N: John Desanzi? P: Yes. N: Were there a lot of Italians working there? P: They were all Italians. All of them. N: The section foreman could speak Italian? P: The section foreman and the laborers · were all Italian, there wasn't ., ,' i any other at all. N: Was the water boy Italian? P: Well, ':le didn't have no water boy, there only was a crew of fou·r or five or six ·men at the most. We had, of course, a water keg you know and whenever you wanted a drink you just go over and get a drink yourself. N: Where was your main, where was your main section house, where did you · work out of, Ogden? P: No, we lived right there on the tressel. N: On the tressel? |
