Chronicle Year Book anb tfjeHE ALUMNUS should be a valuable asset to the University -morally, politically, financially.He should applaud, suggest, criticise-to do this intelligently his interest in the school must not perish with graduation ; he must inquire, visit and become acquainted. He should actively labor to increase the attendance, thereby securing to the institution immediate strength by increasing the number of its patrons, and eventual strength by augmenting the number of its graduates.The graduate should labor to convince, preferably to nominate, his memb'er of the legislature, or, better still, ,should secure the nomination himself, that the University may receive due recognition.He should generously respond to every appeal made to him in behalf of the institution-for financial aid, according to his means, and for committee work and the exertion of influence, according to histime.He should take the University Chronicle, that he may the better be in touch with the school.He should be an enthusiastic rooter at its athletic contests.He should attend the annual election and banquet.He should himself give, or persuade his father to give, sixty thousand dollars to found a professorship with the privilege of perpetually nommating the incumbent, or fifteen thousand dollars to found a fellowship or lectureship, with like privilege of nomination, or three thousand dollars to establish a scholarship, or a suitable bequest for some other purpose appropriate to the objects of the University, and commensurate with his means-all of which is permitted and encouraged by law and good conscience. |
