Show 38U. of U. Chronicle Year BookHE University of Utah, today, is mainly the result of the preparatory department of the past. Ten years ago the University had an Arts and Science department, it is true, but the student body was composed chiefly of Prep, students. While we admit that they did not manifest general interest in student life, yet the athletic teams,.excepting those of the past few years, have been composed chiefly of Prep, students. But the day of Prep, supremacy at the State University is over, and from now on the department will gradually decrease until it is finally eliminated. But, the old school will never be forgotten. Long will it be remembered by many of Utah's best citizens as the happy home where they received the rudiments of their education. The Prep, students of today feel only the most hearty loyalty to the University, and it is because of this that we urge the separation of the Preparatory Department from the University proper. All Preparatory students, some day, hope to enter the University, and we recognize that our loss today will be fully compensated by tomorrow's gain, for this can become a strong institution of higher learning, only when the time and energy of its professors and equipment are devoted entirely to training college students. And so, college students, understand that we, with you, are working for the higher University. But if this is to be the last year of the Preparatory department's existence, let us find consolation in the fact that it has been the best. |
