The rhythmic form is irregular but coherent. Two rhythmic units occur, the first comprising one measure and the second nine measures. The song is minor in tonality, begins and ends on the dominant, and lacks the seventh and second tones of the complete octave. In structure it is melodic with harmonic framework, the tonic chord being strongly in evidence. Thirty- seven progressions occur, about two- thirds of which are descending intervals. |
