In a majority of transcriptions the time unit is a quarter note. The duration of this time unit is determined by the beat of a Maelzel metronome, the numbers in this table corresponding to those on the pendulum of the metronome and indicating, respectively, the number of beatsper minute. The word " unit" is here used in accordance with the second definition given by the Century Dictionary- " Unit. Any standard quantity by the repetition of which, or of some subdivision of it, any other quantity of the same kind is measured." * Excluded in computing percentage. |
