Title Diary of Brigham Young, xi
Description Numerous persons have assisted me in my research and preparation of this study. First and foremost, I am indebted to Dr. Philip P. Mason of Wayne State University who made this diary available to me. Mrs. Margery W. Ward, my associate of many years, once again gave valuable assistance in the preparation of the manuscript through her usual capable editorial skills. The staffs of Huntington Library, Bancroft Library, Utah State Historical Society Library, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Historical Department have been most cooperative and helpful. John James, Ronald Esplin, and Della Dye all offered constructive sug- gestions, while Michael Harrison and Ronald Watt guided me to valuable sources. Finally, thanks are given to Dr. Obert C. Tanner who has generously provided the funds in memory of his mother Annie Clark Tanner to publish books on Utah, the Mor- mons, and the West. The assistance of all is gratefully recognized.
