Volcanic stone for the foundation 'had been intended for an earlier XX«XE structure which was never built. The walls are rough-faced, regular coursed red sandstone. Windows are double hung sash types arranged in groups of three and four. are rough-faced blocks, coursed in conjunction with the walls. dressed ashlar elements which break the coursing Lintels Sills are fully _I!IiIE11!I:IiiI' som e w~t. s : : Like the Old Dixie College building the Woodward School seems heavily influenced ~lv'<1lY\e¥e by late Victorian forms, but especially by the RichardsoniarJ style in the handling of materials, simplicity of form, window' treatment and minimum detail. ~ The rough-faced masonry and round arched entrys are of course the primary indicator of this parelle1. STATEMENT OF ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Woodward School is a representative example of turn-of-the-century school treatment house architecture in its RxRtixxg of materials, plan and elevation. It occupies an important position in the St. George community on the northwest corner of the Tabernacle block, one of seven significant public and religious structures there.
