Historical homes in the spotlight 7£/; Dan. Kleven Sun Correspondent Veri Dixon has lived in Provo for more than 80 years. As a kid, he remembers seeing Provo's main street when it was first paved. He later became mayor of Provo in the '60s and he was bishop in the old Provo Third Ward ChapeL Many of the Provo homes and buildings. he remembers growing up. are still there and some are not. "1 can remember as a kid watching BYU play basketball in the gymnasium on the top floor of the Training Building," he said. The Training Building is no longer standing. With next month designated as Preservation Month and the coming year Provo's sesquicentennial, many, like Veri Dixon, will be turning their thoughts back to days when Provo was in its infant stages. To know a town ' s history is to better appreciate and understand its present day.
