A structural and architectural report on Woodward Sixth Grade Center was requested by the committee looking at possible uses for the three buildings. An architect's report will be presented and reviewed noon-2 p.m. Thursday :It the 5t. George City Arts building, 86 S. Main SI. Restoration estimates also may be presented. John Willie. a land- scape architect and Washington County planner. will present suggestions for the 8-acre campus. Students will be moved from Woodward Sixth Grade Center in 1999 to an intermediate school with sixth and seventh grades. The new school will be built southwest of Bloomington Hills Elementary School at 919 E. Brigham Road. Washington County School District board members earlier decided repairs would be too costly to bring the Woodward building up to modem standards . After Thursday's presentations, committee members will draft recommendations for ublic comment at a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., June 11, in the Woodward boy's gym. At their April meeting, committee members agreed on several things to preserve the 96-year-old Woodward building with the bell tower and to keep Washington County School District offices on the school's 8-acre campus. Although most committee members lean toward using the Woodward building for district offices. they also asked two architectural tinns to detennine costs and whether the buildings are appropriate for di strict offices. an arts center or museum:.;..._ _ _ _ _ _ _~ |
