SMITH. DIRECTOR 307 WEST 2ND SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY. UTAH 84101 TELEPHONE 801 1533-5755 Dear SUperintendent Burr: I appreciate your time to talk with me on the telephone about the nomination of the WOodward School and Washington Elementary School to the National Register of Historic Places. I was especially pleased with your recognition of their historic value and statement of plans to continue their use. As I stated on the teleJ;i1one, listing in the National Register of Historic Places does not limit or restrict what property owners can do with their buildings. The National Register of Historic Places is intended to be listing of the Nation's historic, arc.h.itectural and archeological resources. The National Register has served a very important function in educating all citizens about the Nation's heritage and the ideals and values inherent in our heritage. Because of the objection to the submission of the nomination of the WOodward School and Washington Elementary, I would, like to meet with the school board to discuss the p.1rp:>se of b'le reg i s t er arid answer any questions about the implications of listing on the National Register of Historic Places. sincer~ 4t+\~!
