PETERSON ADMINISTRATOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION VICTOR R. FREI ADMINISTRATOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION April 10, 1980 Dr. Melvin T. Smith, Director 302 W. 2nd S. Salt Lake City, Utah 84101 Dear Director Smith: Regarding your letter dated April 4, 1980 concerning the potential nomination of the Woodward School and the Washington Elementary School to the National Register. On March 12, 1980 a letter was sent to Mr. A. Kent Powell of your office stating the Board of Education's position on this matter. That position has not changed. It disappoints (a mild expression of our feelings) us that you disregarded the wishes of the Board and proceeded with your nomination. I repeat the Board's position. The Board does not support the nomination at this time. When the buildings are no longer needed for school purposes the Board will be happy to support such a nomination.
