The district contains the central business district, public school complex , surrounding residential areas, and supporting outbuildings and agricultural structures. Boundarv Justification The boundaries of the Hurricane Historic District contain an intact group of various types of structures from the early years of Hurricane's development, 1906-1940 . The boundaries have been drawn to include the residential and commercial buildings, agricultural structures, and open farmland within central Hurricane that retain historic integrity and are associated with Hurricane's early settlement period. The boundary excludes, where possible, postWWII buildings and properties that have lost integrity due to exterior alterations . The natural cliff to the east forms a well-defined natural physical boundary, as well as a significant historic boundary , To the west of the district boundaries, the character of the neighborhood changes and the majority of residences do not meet the National Register age/integrity criterion . The case is the same with the neighborhoods immediately north and south of the district, where a large number of modern residences compromise the historic character of these areas . name/title Mary Troutman , Preservation Intern/Julie Osborne, Architectural Historian organization Utah State Historic Preservation Office date May 1995 street &number 300 Rio Grande Building telephone (801) 533-3500 city or town Salt Lake City state ---11L- zi p code --=8;,..;.41=0=1_ __ Submit the following items with the completed form : • Continuation Sheets • Maps: A USGS map (7.5 or 15 minute series) indicating the property's location .
