Show on one page. It is notable that the greens vary. Most of the work is done with a mineral green which is sometimes difficult to distinguish from the pale blue pigment. They are both mixed with white. But in a large section, the upper faces of folios 9 to 24 inclusive, a vegetable green, which has faded to a very beautiful kind of gamboge colour, is used. This colour is described variously as brown and golden brown and few notice the remaining slight greenish tinge in it. It is best defined where it is used for green subjects such as quetzal feathers and trees.…27 22 ' : 22- 22'" 22 ' 22 22 22 22 22 22 ^-";-r - - «' - 22 . The only important surface irregularities are the traces of the joints where the spliced end of skin crosses the surface of a page. There are three of these, all carefully pressed down and covered with the lime plaster surface. The accumulation of this material in the line of the joint gives a slight and smoothly rounded ridge running vertically across the sheet. All three of these visible joins are arranged to fall across the Dorsal side of the Codex. On the frontal side all joints fall along the hinges between folios. These are normally invisible. The remarkable standards of accuracy in manufacture of the codex are shown by the uniformity of page sizes. In length the total variation is 5 mm. on an average page length of 165.5 mm. The variation in height is only 2 mm on an average page height of 157.5 mm. The following table gives details with measurements to the approximate centre of the joints between each folio: Fol. 1.‘6.5 x 15.8. cms.Ÿol. 13.‘6.4 x 15.8. cms.
