Show figures on both sides, and are not vertically reversed as in some other codices.…25r : DORSAL SIDE Folio ID. A cover sheet, slightly overlapping the main skin of the codex. Its surface shows insect damage. As far as can be seen it does not cover any painting underneath on the skin to which it has been cemented. Folio 2D. This begins a whole side of the Codex on which a mineral green pigment has been used and not the vegetable green which is predominant on the Frontal side. This folio bears many clear marks of the use of smoothing tools. The right hand edge shows several sections of the white paste surface flaked away. Folio 3D. This page has patches near the edges where the grey colour is the original skin exposed where the lime surface has flaked away. Folio 4D. The lower edge shows a crease in the skin which has been painted over. The left top corner of the page is flaked. Folio 5D. The white plaster surface has flaked on the edges, and the page is covered by a fine crackle caused by shrinking of the plaster through too rapid drying. Folio 6D. face of page covered by slightly raised area over the joint in the leather. The joint is slightly curved and has been cut in to within less than 1 mm. of the surface of the adjoining sheet. Folio 7D. A dark stain on this sheet is derived from the original black ink of the outlines. Folio 8D. Brownish stains near the top of the page and across the bird's bill are watercolour stains, probably from the original paint. |
