Codices from 15th and 16th century Mexico. These Mesoamerican manuscripts described wars, victories, famine, pestilence, religious events, and other elements of ancient Mesoamerican culture. The codices often consisted of one long extension or band of paper called amatl, produced from the bark of a type of fig tree. Glyphs, or pictorial representations, were used for the text. |

Show CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIONES ANTROPOLOGICAS DE MEXICO: Esplendor del Mexico Antiguo. 2 Vols. Mexico, 1959. Coordinating Editor Carmen COOK de Leonard, written by a group of specialist collaborators, who cover all aspects of ancient Mexican life. In the sections on ceremonial and daily life Codex Laud is mentioned and some illustrations are taken from it. The Bodleian Library has published all its Mexican MSS as coloured film-strip (35 mm frames) suitable for mounting as slides for lecture and study purposes. The complete roll of film of 172 frames and five titles is priced at £ 14. and Codex Laud Misc. 678 is available on 25 frames with title at £ 2:10:0. |
