The historic character of the exterior would be retained other than the repair or replacerr.ent of certain elements. Tentatively, its first efforts would go tOviard stabilization of the northwest corner of the carriage house. St. Mary's has no resources for the project other than ex~ressions of interest by various individuals and groups. The Utah Heritage Society's Michael Leventhal indicated that short-term five year low interest finance would be available for exterior repairs and renovation. St. Mary's also has asked the Utah AFL-CIO if it could marshal retired craftsmen to contribute volunteer time. Certain persons and institutions who have made large contributions to other Salt Lake projects, or St. Mary's itself, have bee~ made aware of the carriage house as opportunity for a meaningful gift. One financial institution which has made a major co~tribution to th9 mansion facilities upgrading -- has discussed possibility of funding either through long-term, low-interest loan, or u~c.er require~ents of the Corn~unity Reinvestment Act, or through special prograo 0: its central banking authority.
