It would be used for meeting space, offices, vocational training, study, and vocational training. It would include a physical fitness room. The carriage house is now partly used for food and other equipment storage. It also houses some exercise equipment installed by residents. ASSIST Inc., Salt Lake City-based low-incomes housing design group -- bringing in skilled voluntary consultants from several disciplines has provided St. Mary's with a proposal for preservation and remodelling. Intent to keep the carriage house's exterior character and turn its interior into complementary space for the mansion. The project would meet several two purposes: -- Historic preservation. -- Enhance west side ambience. Mansion and carriage houses lie along the path of the Jordan River bike-walk and riverway. -- Improvement of services to residents. The offices for St. Mary's director and staff would be on the second level. The mansion laundry room now serves as staff offices. A large open space on the second level would be used for large meetings such as meetings of the 41 residents, Alcoholics Anonymous and other self-help groups. Various sources of finance are under consideration . 1206 West 2nd South, Salt LAke City, Utllh 84104- P. O. Bor 941 Salt lAIce City, Utllh 84109 - Telephone: (801) 328-1894 |
