Show January 15, 1991 Roger Roper Utah state Division of History Preservation Office 300 Rio Grande Drive Salt Lake City, Utah Roger, In response comments: to your letter, I'd like to make the following My intention was to prepare individual NR nominations. While I understand that USHS policy has been changing over the years, I felt that I was submitting a complete nomination report; which I believe you will find consistent with the two other NR nominations I have submitted. In regards to the negatives, it was my understanding (from conversations with you last spring) that the location of the negatives was all that was required. In regards to the brevity of the two narrative passages; such brevity had been recommended to me in the past (principally in conversations with Tom Carter), and is also consistent with the two previous NR nominations which I have submitted. Granted, my experience with the format is limited. I have however, completed over a hundred Intensive Level Surveys, for which I was told the materials developed would be all that was required to assemble the completed NR forms. I have enjoyed doing research for various CLGs. However, as you are aware, my available time for such work has become increasingly limited over the past year or so. As I related at our last meeting, I will not have time to work on such proj ects in the future, and do not have additional time to put into these particular projects at the present. Since you have determined that the applications are inadequate, I will not request payment. You have two complete copies of my research files (including photographs and slides). The CLG and owners of the property are each in possession of a similar, complete research file for each property. I assume that you will be able to tweak the files into an acceptable condition. While this is sort of a negative note on which to end our association, I have found it personally satisfying and hope that you feel the same. David R. Haws cc Donna Breckenridge |
