Show United States Department of the Interior National Park Service National Register of Historic Places Continuation Sheet Section number _7_ _ Page _ __ Principal alterations include the two story frame addition (with one story utility porch) at the rear of the structure. This addition was in place by 1925 and blends very well with the existing structure--continuing the shingle belt courses, broad eaves and pent roof. The windows are slightly down scaled. A matching drop novelty siding is set at both ground and second floors of the west facade, but channel groove siding is gsed at less conspicuous rear portions of the structure. The alterations to the front of the structure wh~ch also pre-date the 1925 Sanborn map; include the extension of the L shaped front porch, into a solid rectangular block (with solid brick piers and a short brick railing). The cross gable of the parallel wing (principal facade) however, is lost; blended into a level extent ion from the ridge of the old cross gable and westward to the junction with the original 2 story wing. This extension includes an access door onto the flat porch roof. The floor plan of the original structure is reminiscent of many dual entrance cross wing house types; but with much broader spans than is typical (and more highly compartmentalized). While the structure has suffered some neglect in recent years, the intricate craftsmanship--particularly in the masonry; has survived undiminished. Even ghosting from the hotel advertisemen i painted at the south west corner of the ground floor, has survived. ", I'\I ~~... ,,tJ t· , |
