Show 16 "Gentlemen, may I introduce Delilah, an American guest who has tired herself swimming and is in need of refreshment." Tito's words were translated to a thin, gray-haired man. "And Delilah," he continued, "may I introduce Undersecretary Zamiotov of the Soviet Union and his associates." Mr. Zamiotov smiled and nodded. "Delilah," said Tito, "please help yourself. We have such delicious things, including this fine caviar brought by Mr- Zamiotov. It is spendid." He spread some on a piece of dark bread and handed it to her. "We have vodka, Sljivovica .... Ah! but here, I know what you would like." He lifted a lid from a small chest and held out a can. "Budweiser, a good drink for someone so young, and someone so old." He winked and took a can for himself. As the group ate and drank the the conversation became more and more dominated by Tito and Mr- Zamiotov through the interpreters. Delilah didn't understand a word so she tried the various delicacies on the table and finished her beer. The young aide who had brought her the robe anticipated this moment, pulled the tab from another can and handed the drink to her. She took it hesitantly and smiled. "Thank you." "Welcome," he beamed. "Do you speak English?" "Yes, very well," he answered proudly. |
