Show 13 balcony as the man who had been seated at the table disappeared into the house. Tito smiled at Delilah, then looked down and spoke to a young man nearby in the water. The young man lifted off his face mask and snorkel and threw them to Tito. One of the guards jerked his coat and tie off and began pulling at his shoes. Another guard followed suit. Tito untied his robe and let it drop revealing the black, jocky-short bathing suit universal to contrymen his age. He stepped from the landing to a rock and jumped into the water. One guard dove into the water in shirt-sleeves and pants and was quickly out in front of his boss while two others dove in in stages of undress and positioned themselves out from Tito's flanks. The fourth guard simply walked, fully dressed, off of the landing into the water and sunk resolutely to the bottom. Delilah went last, holding her mask and snorkel in her hands and wearing one fin until she was in the water, then she out on her head gear, and they swam out side by side. The guard in front broke through the throng like and icebreaker, shouting at the people to move back and swinging his arms threateningly when they lingered. At Tito's plunge the women on shore took to the water- Those with children too small to leave watched grudgingly as a wave of grandmothers stroked towards Tito; grandmothers fully aware of Tito's wife's fall from grace. Delilah and Tito pulled down their masks and trolled the blue waters. As they swam, fish cruised below, the sand and sea plants shifted and the ocean floor collected more souvenirs; a sports coat, a gun and holster, shoes, wallets and watches. |
