Show 44. Caldwell would interview Stephanie for the new issue. Then Chic got into a loud argument with the staff photographer on propulsion and fuels. In spite of the bedlam in the room after JD finished telling them, he felt relieved. True, his headache was back and going over it again caused the funny prickling on his hands and face to return, but he thought they'd believed him. Most of them. Of course, Fred had to bring up little green men with claw-hands and pointy ears. There was a fair share of shrieking and giggling and a whole lot of speculation. But it was Chic who posed the question that bothered him the most. "What if they brain-washed you some way to make you forget? Would you be able to bring it all back under hypnosis?" JD hadn't thought of that. "Maybe I ought to probe your subconscious . . ." Chic's smile turned malicious. "Forget it!" "Seriously. You saw me put those kids under in health class--" "And at Helen Leonard's, yeah, I remember. You're fantastic, Chic, but skip it, will you?" After the bell Chic waited and walked with JD to his locker. His curiosity was still fired up. "Did you feel any different?" he persisted. "After you came to?" "I felt rotten. I still have a headache off and on that's a real bitch." He didn't mention the sensation on his skin or the nausea yesterday. "I'll tell you what I think," Chic looked at his watch. "I gotta go to work, but I'll tell you what I think . . ." he paused. "Spit it out," JD said. Sometimes Chic got so busy thinking, he'd forget what he was saying. "That UFO confiscated your camera. They're passing your pictures around in some other galaxy right now." JD had to laugh. "Keep loose," Chic called as he hurried off down the hall. On his way out of the building, JD stuck his head in at Garth's office. "How you doing?" |
