Show 97. He shrank from her touch as she reached for him. "They're back!" he groaned. "Who's back? Why do you punish yourself like this? What's the matter with you, anyway?" "I wish I knew!" He stared at the sky, so full and bright a short while ago and tried to pull himself back together. "Gayle, I want to tell you the rest of what happened to me on the mountain . . . when I blacked out . . . I know you hate to hear about it, I know that, but I have to tell you . . ." "Why? Why do you have to tell me? You know how I feel--" "No, I don't think I do." He turned to face her in the darkened car. "How do you feel, Gayle? Spell it out for me." She hesitated. "Well, I feel sorry for you, but I can't believe everything you've said happened. I just can't. I know you're honest, JD, and that's what makes it all so incredible. How can someone like you get so involved in this UFO thing?" JD shook his head. "But it happened to me! I was there. I was scared out of my skull!" "Why hasn't Stephanie gone off the deep end then? You should hear what the kids at school are saying about you, JD. They're not talking about her." "Stephanie wasn't with me." "What do you mean?" Gayle sounded skeptical. "Listen," JD began gently. Inside, he was frantic trying to make her understand. "Chic hypnotized me one night a couple of weeks ago. I went into a deep trance and I relived what happened to me during the time I thought I'd blacked out. I was taken, I was forcibly taken, by these . . . men? humanoids? . . . I don't know what they were, but I was lifted and dragged, screaming, into that UFO." "Oh my God! Take me home!" She swung around in the seat. "Gayle, listen to me!" "No, I won't listen to these stupid stories of yours any more. Why are you doing this?" JD leaned back against the head rest and gripped the steering wheel hard. "How can I make you believe me? I am not telling stupid stories!" |
