I expect our last letters went around the other way. j\1other hr~ s been gone over two weeks up to Sd..da Springs & Bear Lake. She said she ·would ~nrite to you there. She will be home in about three days. There has not been much news of late as the courts adjourned for the hot weather. But e s they corn .. mence again about the middle of September , we :may have more ne·ws in the next letter. John W. Snell is the only one they have taken up lately. ~omney 's case is set for the 28th September. The latest news from Washington is that all the cases convicted this fall are to be sent to Auburn State prison,New York under the strictest disaplin. They ha~e not been able to get hold of s.Taylor and Cannon yet as they keep out of the way. Br .Cannon comes to the City occasianm~y to transact business. He sent for me this week to call on him ton a business mate:et,& I had a very pleasant interview with him. He is fat and hearty. He said his advice was to keep out of their clutches. I have bought a piece of the south end of 1~s . William's lot opposite the shop. 54l ft for $1500-& am going to start a nouse for Bess right away. If I should be taken it would be necessary for her to have a home of her o,~,and I would have to visit her on the secret,vJhen I did so,& that place would be about as quiet and handy as any I know of- We are running along slowly with very few men,and but poor prospects for the winter. The ~overnment Agents have stopped all the lumber ·mills in the terr-itory from cutting lumber to sell, stating that it can only be cut to use in the district it is found in,& have sued all the mill owners. Edger Angell went into the business this Summer in Pleasant Valley,& put in all he had,& if it is held in force,it will break him up. Eccles is sued for 109 thousand dollars-He is going to buck them,but if he looses,it wil.l.. ..__ --=- break him up. |
