WIL: Here's the other one [ how picture]. ART: They met down at "B-Y-Woo" (laughs). WIN: I have a sister in Idaho Falls. ART: They have three children. WIN: So you stayed with Standard for how many years, fourteen? ART: Yes, about that. I stayed long enough ... every year they extended vacation time. They gave us two weeks vacation every year. They finally extended it, if you had ten years or better to three weeks vacation. I'd stayed my eleventh year and got three weeks. WIN: After Standard where did you go? WIL: He got his own station. ART: Yes, I quit Standard. I thought, "If I can make money for the company, I ought to be able to make it for myself." A Richfield station came open. The leasee wanted out and I bought him out. WIN: Was this still in Yakima? ART: In Yakima, yes, but that didn't work out. There was competition. On every comer in Yakima, there was a service station. They were building more new ones all the time. So I got out of that business and went to work for Ted Falk, wasn't it? WIL: Yes, it was whoever owned that distributorship, anyway. ART: Yes, Ted Falk. Ted Falk sold automotive supplies to garages and service stations and whoever. I went to work for him as a salesman for three or four years. Then after that, I went to work for two brothers that were the wholesale agents for ARCO, Atlantic 56 |
