Show ROBERT THAYER DE MB R 2002 mechanical contraption and especially an aircraft. And we did inflict a lot of damag but we took tremendous loss. That and Ploesti and, of course we weren't involved in Pl ti. The Eighth Air Force flew out of England; the Fifteenth flew out of Italy and other ar as down there too. But I guess that was a disaster, Ploesti was. But by the same token the damage that they did was tremendous, but the losses were terrible. BEC: The cost was really high. ROB: Uh-huh. I had a good friend of mine that flew on the Ploesti Raid and was shot down and almost killed by the civilians. If it hadn't have been for the military getting there in time, the Germans, he would have been killed, because they Germans did honor the Geneva War, to a certain degree. When you talk to this Theuson, he'll tell you some stories that they weren't honoring it, that's for sure, about the torture and that they would inflict sometimes, if you do get a chance to talk to him. But I don't know why I didn't think of Bob Erickson sooner. Dam, I wish he-he's due back here one of these days. I'm going to call you. BEC: For Christmas, he usually comes back to Park City? ROB: Yeah, he comes back. He likes this girlfriend, and she lives up in Park City, and he comes back and stays two or three weeks. This summer, he was here all summer long. Okay, give me some more. BEC: Okay, let me bring you back here to the United States. So you got back and you were in Sioux Falls, then you had to go down to Texas, and then that's where you got your orders for discharge? ROB: Yeah. BEC: And you came back to Fort Douglas? 53 |
