His endless surveillanc during this period of time and throughout his entire assignment as Group Communications Officer, coupled with his ability to wield general control over the large number of sections in his department, have been determining factors in making his department one of the most efficient on his station. His department includes combat mission briefings, training of radio operator gunners, the Flimsy Office, HFDF Station, radio maintenance, message center, cryptographic office, the telephone system and all types of radar equipment now currently in use by the Air Force. In every assignment given to him and in those undertakings which he took upon himself, Major Thayer has constantly displayed technical ability, organizational acumen and devotion to duty. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the Armed Forces of the United States. Entered military service from Utah." That is very nice, very nice. And that is one thing I thought about, too, that they mentioned in there, were all the departments that you had to oversee. That was a lot. That was a lot of work. I imagine the job felt pretty stressful sometimes. ROB: Well, at times it got to be, because you had a lot of personalities to deal with. The officers, when I first took over as a group officer, well, the other three officers that I had, I'm sure, felt a little resentment, and generally in the military whenever they had a department head change they would bring somebody in from the outside rather than promoting them up because of this.
