Show DELLA M. PETTY PRI 2 02 BEC: You got your education. DEL: And then I did feel stupid. I thought I bet you th y w r r ally embarrassed. Mary said, "Della, you embarrassed me." And I said I didn t know· I thought they were funny, showing their fingers and their hands." I really did. I thought they were just funny. But I sure learned in a hurry. BEC: DEL: BEC: DEL: That's a funny story. Oh, stupid things you do. So for you it wasn't intimidating or upsetting, it was an education. Oh, no. I just thought they were comedians. I thought they were just funny because I've never seen any that acted like that. And she said, "Della ... " And I said, "What are they?" And she said, "Della, you sure did come from the backwoods." She said, "I'm going to have to take you some places to educate you." But you know, they put on some really good shows. I didn't like the women as much as the men but, boy, some of them really look like women and, boy, could they perform. BEC: Now have you been back to San Francisco since-? DEL: Yeah, my husband and I went back two or three times. We went back because the girlfriend of mine lived in Pasadena so we'd go back to see her and met her and her husband. She's lost her husband, too. But, anyway, went back and seen her and then we went to see some relatives that lived in San Francisco. We took a tour of where I was stationed. I wish I could have found one of my albums. I've got pictures of different things, where we've been and stayed and a lot of the WAVES I went with are in there. But it was a lot of fun. Yeah, I really got an education about a lot of things, coming from a small town. 22 |
