Show DELLA M. PETTY PRJ 2 2 DEL: It was. It was fun. I don t know I think p pl that r m rl War II, met a lot of wonderful people and had so many experi nee . I m trying t writ myself a little book about my life for my kids. I wouldn't trade any of my tim in th service for anything. I think that was-in fact I think other than being married to my wonderful husband, and having all my children, that was one of the highlights of my life that I really enjoyed. Then we started WAVES of the Wasatch, and it was me and Ruth Tuttle and three others that started it here. I was the vice president when we started with it, and we've kind of kept it up. They've tried to get more in the chapter. And like I say, I still keep in contact with some of my friends that I've met in boot camp. I enjoyed the Statue of Liberty when we were in New York. That was nice. That was something. And you know, New York is such a fascinating place; I wouldn't want to live there, but I love to visit it and I'd like to go back sometime. BEC: You've not been back since you were there? DEL: No, I haven't, and I would like to sometime. No, I got married when I was twenty-five and I worked then had my children. My husband was a driver for Garrett Freight Lines and when it was time for vacation, that was our quality time together, so we'd take the kids and go to Disneyland or take two weeks and go camping. He wasn't in the service. He had punctured eardrums so he never did get to go in the service. BEC: So how did you two meet? DEL: Well, let's see (laughs). The first time I met him, I used to go with some fellow, and we'd go to the Coconut Grove to dance. BEC: DEL: This is when you were in San Francisco? No, this is in Salt Lake. 18 |
