Show DELLA M. PETTY PR BEC: DEL: BEC: Salt Lake okay. o the Coconut Grove was in alt Lak ? Uh-huh. Then later it was the Rainbow Rendezvous. DEL: It turned into Rainbow Rendezvous; before that, it was oconut 2 2 Grove. And after I got out of the service-see, I didn't meet him until after I got out of the service-but one night we was going out dancing and this one friend I was with, he says, "I've got to go pick up some money from his guy that's at the Torch Bar." That was called the Torch. I said, "Well, yeah, I guess I could go in there with you." So we went in there and Walter was talking to my cousin that I hadn't seen for a long time. So I went over and talk to my cousin and he introduces me to Walt. So Walter got my phone number and he called me, and I was working at the time at the officers club out at Keams, I was the hostess for the officers club at Kearns. And I used to sing two nights a week with the orchestra out there. BEC: Really? DEL: Yeah. Anyway, he called and wanted me to go out on a date and I said, "Okay." And then he didn't show up and he called me and said he had a flat tire. And I thought, "Oh, a likely story." But he really did have a flat tire and there wasn't these cell phones to get to. So he said, "I'm sorry. Really I did." He says, "Honest, I want to go out with you." So the next time we went out, then we just started to go together and we only went together six months and we got married. BEC: That's a nice story. DEL: But he was so funny. But, when I was in the service, I was engaged to a fellow from the army that lived in Pennsylvania. And I went back there and we were 19 |
