Show THE CHURCH REVIEW. <br><br> General Church Notes. <br> METHODIST. <br> Rev. B. F. Crary, editor of the California Christian Advocate died in San Francisco, Saturday March 9, aged 74. He was editor of the Central Christian Advocate from 1864 to 1872. He served as chaplain in the civil war for two years. He was a clean, forcible writer and a Christian of the heroic type. <br> A conference of Protestant workers in Mexico, to be followed by union evangelistic meetings under the direction of Moody and Sankey, is soon to take place. The former in Toluca, the latter in Mexico City. <br> Of the six native army chaplains in the Japanese army, one is a Methodist. <br> Rev. John Peate, age 74, assumes the task of making the [largest] telescope ever made. It is for the Methodist University at Washington, and will be 62 inches in diameter and seven inches thick. <br> The Canal Steamship Company refused to sell Bishop Turner, of the African M. E. church a first class ticket from New York to Liverpool. <br><br> MISCELLANEOUS. <br> "Chicago recently dedicated her 128th Methodist church." <br> "The British government licenses 10,417 opium dens in India." <br> "The Bible Depository at Shanghai, China, issued during last July and August the unusually large number of 133,525 volumes." <br> "The Raleigh [S. C.] News and Observer says that in the state senate there are 14 Baptists, 9 Methodists, 3 Disciples, 3 Quakers, 2 Lutherans 2 Episcopalians and 2 Presbyterians." <br> The Anti-Slavery Society of Paris, has learned that the contract to supply plantations in Brazil with servile Chinese labor, against which the society recently protested, has been abrogated." <br><br> The "square statement" made by Walker Bros. & Fyler Co., on one of the front pages has doubtless been read by most of the ladies before this, but if any have not they should return to and read it at once.
