Show ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This publication was assisted by much friendly help and advice, particularly from Dr. John 8. Glass who sent an advance copy of the bibliographical notes for the forthcoming Smithsonian Institution publication, Dr. Carlos Martinez Marin who sent a personal copy of his book on Codex Laud, and to Dr. K. A. Nowotny who allowed us to consult an earlier Thesis of his as well as his book Tlacuillolli, for the history of the Manuscript. We have received every possible help from Dr. R. W. Hunt, Keeper of Western Manuscripts in Bodley's Library, and from Dr. W. O. Hassall. The staff who worked in the beautiful and ancient Duke Humphrey's Library at the Bodleian did all possible to make occasional study visits effective. One remembers with gratitude a young man who carried one of the enormous volumes of Kingsborough's Mexican Antiquities from the new Library shelves to the ancient library where Codex Laud is preserved. The curious and very delicate colours of the document called for much patience in reproduction in which the specialists in Graz found ways of overcoming technical problems, which are naturally very great when the original manuscript is a thousand miles away from the printing presses. We hope the result now presented will in itself be some gratification to all those who have joined in the creative work of which the writing of this descriptive text seems to have been but a little part in an immense whole of friendly encouragement and cooperation.
