| Description | Published in Antwerp in 1576 under the title Plantarum seu stirpium historia, this volume combines two works by Mathias de l'Obel, also known as Matthaeus Lobelius: Stirpium adversaria nova, his 1571 joint work with Pietro Pena that was published in London; and Stirpium Observationes (1576), a larger supplement to the 1571 work. It included 1,486 engravings of plants, including those from works by Pietro Mattioli, Rembert Dodoens, and Charles de l'Écluse. There is also a 15-page treatise on herbal remedies by Guillaume Rondelet and a multilingual index to the composite work. This work is bound with Nova Stirpivm adversaria nova in a single volume. |
