Show One conference record and six state records were broken at the annual state meet at Logan, May 17. The Logan team piled up 67 and one third points, . against 42 for the University. The Aggies won six first places and the "U" five. The conference record in the broad jump was broken by Watkins of the "U", when he hung up a new record in the broad jump by leaping 22 feet 9 and one-half inches, bettering the previous record by two and one-half inches. Other i records which were shattered were the discus throw, the 440 yard run, the javelin and the mile relay. Wullstein of the "U" threw the javelin 165 feet .4 inches. Jones of the "U" won first in the shot put with a mark of 38 feet 7 and one-half inches. Glen Anderson of the "U" and Sterling Anderson of the Utah Aggies were tied for high honors of the day, each of the men winning two firsts and running in the mile relay. Glen won the 120-yard high hurdles and the 220-yard low hurdles. Altogether, the "\J" won five first places; the shot put, the broad jump, the 120-yard high hurdles, the javelin, and the 220-yard low hurdles. - 146 |
