Show soda ** /bt "barber shop STAFF of professors and and hundreds of students are no more necessary to this University than a Union Building. Twenty-five hundred students come and go from this institution gaining books knowledge, some get nothing more. Where is the real Utah Spirit, the feeling for the other fellow, and the knowledge that each of us is a vital part of a live, glorious institution? We need something to bind us together in a common spirit, to give us love for our school; a place where we can get together and act as one. Union Building will do it. The Union Building will answer many needs. It is a well known fact that the need for a theatre on the campus has been acute for many years. A beautiful, well equipped auditorium and stage will provide facilities for all dramatic productions and activities, without the usual enormous expenditure for rentals. It will also give us a place to get together, to see our hundreds as a unit and to act as one. What could be better than to attend the annual Prom or a peppy football dance in a beautiful ballroom on our own campus? Each year thousands of dollars are paid out in rentals alone for various dance halls scattered about the city. All this will be saved and we will have the privacy of our own campus. We need recreation for all but especially for the man or woman who may drop out from discouragement because he hasn't found his crowd in the swarming hundreds on our campus. The Union Building will make the University mean more to the drudging student than a dreary place to come to, leaving immediately after classes, with never a chat with the other fellow or an idea of what our school is doing. It will be a pleasant retreat where every one from the sophisticated senior to the lonely freshman can enjoy himself. It will be the brightest spot in the memories of all alumni and it will beackon them back. Do you think of your college career as nothing but an endless grind at your studies with nothing about the campus to brighten the weary hours? Think what the building, open to all, would do, with its auditorium, ballroom, pleasant cafeteria, billiard room, lounging rooms, where you can meet your friends. Such is a Union Building as we stand at the beginning of a drive for funds; a solution of many of our student problems, a promise for a greater Utah. 349 |
