C. 18 Utah was represented in the tank this year by as fast a group of paddlers as ever froliced in Crimson suits. In the one meet of the year Coach Holling's boys did themselves proud by spilling three state records, equalling a fourth, and sending one intermountain mark into the past. Allan Christensen, a freshman, was high point man of the meet, and is responsible for the two new records in the 100 yard breast stroke and 100 yard free style events. Lee Christensen brother of Allan and captain of the team, took seven seconds off the state record and bettered the intermountain mark in the 220 yard free style event. John Kimball equalled the state mark in the 40 yard free style. Lee Taylor took the 220 yard back stroke by a lead of over twenty yards but was disqualified through the peculiar interpretation given to the rule on turning. The seven men who composed the squad and who won letters are: Captain Lee Christensen, Obert Tanner, Allan Christensen, Dave Thomas, John Kimball, Lee Taylor and Mel Freebairn. 152 |
