Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

Y. M. C. A. News.
THE MASS MEETING.
The interest manifested by members and friends was gratifying, the attendance was all that could be asked, the addresses were splendid, the result was an awakening all along the line of Association work. The daily papers contained such full accounts of the meeting that we will not enter into detail here. Dean Peck is an interesting speaker and can hold a large audience.
Our friends were somewhat surprised at the outcome of the appeal for funds. The occasion for the confusion which resulted in Mr. Peck dropping the appeal when in the middle of it was a lack of understanding as to the methods to be employed. Had there been no misunderstanding we should have realized at least $2000.00; as it was the subscriptions amounted to about $100.00.
We desire here to thank all those who contributed to make this meeting such a grand success, to express our appreciation of the hearty co-operation of pastors and churches, and assure our friends that as a result of this special agitation all departments of the work are being prosecuted with renewed zeal and earnestness.

The meeting at 4 p. m. last Sunday was one of the most interesting in the history of the Association. Mr. Chas. K. Ober of the International Committee addressed the meeting. In a concise, logical way he presented Christ's own answer to the question, "What Must I Do To Be Saved?" It was a straight gospel talk, every point being made quite clear and presented in such a manner as to be easily remembered, and at the same time make a profound impression. The music was good, the quartette sang, "Wandering Down," and the lard chorus led the congregational singing.

Attend the meeting today at 4 p. m.

During his short stay in this city Mr. Ober gave us some very practical hints. While he commended the work in general, he specified some particulars in which radical improvement could be made. He strongly recommended that additional furniture be placed in the rooms, that some floor be carpeted, that rugs be provided for others, that walls be decorated, and the rooms be made generally more attractive. He also recommended that a physical director be employed. Will you help to make these improvements possible?
The Finance Committee held a consolation with Mr. Ober and decided to make the canvas at once. A suggestion was made by Mr. Ober that a sub committee of the younger young men be appointed to canvas among the members for small subscriptions. Aid the committee in its work by making your subscription at the earliest possible moment.

General Church Notes.
METHODIST.
This is the age of conventions.
An Epworth League has been formed in Ireland.
April 14 is to be the great Missionary Day of Methodism, as Easter Sunday usually is.
There were eleven graduates from the Bareilly Theological Seminary, India, last December.
The International Epworth League Convention meets at Chattanooga, Tenn. this summer.
Bishop Fowler reports the work in the South as in better condition than he has ever before seen it.
Rev. Samuel G. Jones, grandfather of Rev. Sam Jones the evangelist is dead at Cartersville, Iowa, at the age of 91.
The presiding elders of the conferences in Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Montana hold a meeting at St. Paul March 1.
Thoburn says the largest number of high-caste converts are recorded in those districts where there is the largest number of low-caste converts.
Rev. George P. Miller of the Methodist Mission at Monroe, is a member of the Constitutional Convention now in session in this city.
Rev. E. D. Cook of St. Johns, Ohio, returning from church in his buggy, was attacked by "hold ups" who shot at him, wounded him, but so scared the horse that it ran away, and the minister escaped further injury-Wonder what they wanted!

CLOTHING
If You Are Thinking
That your outfit needs renewal or enlargement, the proper course is to examine our stock of Clothing at once. The display is a study in current styles. We follow fashion as closely as the tail does the dog, and consequently those who come to us for clothing are bound to wear what's right. It isn't telling half the story, though, to say that our suits and Overcoats are stylish, because they're that and everything else that fine clothing ought to be. There's value in them and value and style are everything in clothing. You're bound to be suited if we provide the suit.
J. P. GARDNER,
136-138 Main Street.

|
