Show PART I INTRODUCTION Purpose and Scope The purpose of the Municipal and Industrial Water Supply Appendix is to: (1) Summarize the water volumes withdrawn and depleted for municipal and industrial (including livestock) purposes in the base year (1965); (2) Based on projections of the Office of Business Economics (OBE) of the Department of Commerce and the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the Department of Agriculture, determine the water required to meet the corresponding future demands in the target years 1980, 2000, and 2020; (3) Compare future demands with the available water supplies and determine the opportunities and means available to satisfy these demands; and (4) List the water required to meet the future demands in the target years 1980, 2000, and 2020 for alternative levels of development. This appendix summarizes the water use for domestic, manufacturing, livestock, governmental, and commercial and other related purposes in the Upper Colorado Region. The Present Status section is based on the 1965 level of develop- ment, compiled from existing information and estimations in areas where data were lacking or inadequate. In comparing projected demands with the potential water supplies, areas requiring additional water supplies are designated as well as the magnitude of the required supply. Sug- gested means of satisfying future demands are general. A few specific projects or developments are presented. Research needs and additional data requirements are also presented.
