Pershing, commander of the United States Army and former Generalissimo of the Armies of the United States in France, made a brief visit to Salt Lake City. General Pershing was welcomed by officers of the American Legion and officials of the city. John E. Holden, state adjutant of the American Legion, and a student of this University, was a member of the committee of welcome. The general accepted an invitation to address the students. He spoke shortly after noon. He lauded the patriotism of the students of this institution in their response to the call for men in the recent war, stating that a greater percentage of men left this University to take part in the war than from any university within his knowledge, in this country.
