Show The Zetts had gone back to the hidden HighTartar valleys they'd chosen to settle in many TwelveMonths before-ahead of the cattle prodders and smoke bombs of the Earth colonists who had taken over the small folks' City of Caves. Dr'Anya sat herself down on a thickly cushioned chair in the sitting room, pulled off her white kid boots, and flexed her toes, looking idly around the room. Another chair faced her at the other window. A wide fireplace hung with poker and tongs squatted between the windows, and three logs-RackWood logs from the spicey smell-burned merrily, for some reason. The room would have been comfortable without it, for the Twins were not much past the meridian. Was a flash blizzard expected? 'Twas Sixthmonth on BauerWorlde, after all! Dr'Anya sighed, then stiffened. "Is't my Lady Mother ?" She pulled herself up out of the engulfing chair and padded barefoot into the bedroom. Her feet were in flames. "Janni?" She took her daughter's hand and looked down at her- Janni's hair lay in hanks by this time, and a wad of it hung down over one eye. Dr'Anya made an impatient tch with her mouth, laid the child's hand down, went to the chests, and started pulling out drawers. In the top drawer of the second chest, toilet articles were laid out, and she chose a brush of EarthPig bristles and a comb and went back to the bed to work on the young Janni's hair. Her daughter struggled up, using both elbows and many grunts, and propped herself against the pillows Dr'Anya had pushed back against the headboard.
