Show XIV "A good beginning bodes not-at all times -a good end." from The Memoirs of Aldous Phrapp Phrapp stopped at the door marked Privileged Room and glanced up and down the darkened hall, elaborately casual. Then he nudged the door tentatively with one knobby finger. It slid open with a whisper and he stepped inside. Leaning against the closed door, he looked around the shadowy room, his eyes resting at length on a console gleaming dully: lighter than the surrounding room that had so recently been plunged in darkness. Marry, 'twas a stroke of luck that the Governor should go down at just that time. Phrapp had armed himself with a chisel to pry the lock loose, trusting the tardy alarms not to give him away until some time the next TwelveMonth, but 'twould have taken time-breaking in that way. He smiled to himself. Then he walked over to the console. 121 |
