To many of the Provincials, brought up on tales of these dragons and their role in the future destruction of BauerWorlde, it was the end of life as they knew it. The YellowBison began lowing several octaves higher and then thundered across the field and back toward Kyoto Pass, effectively blocking the Provincial's line of escape. Then, just as twelve Grendels and their riders reached the middle of the field, the first volley of rocks was thrown over the western cliffs by a handful of Zetts who had in the meantime landed and clamored off their Grendels and onto the overhang. The remaining Provincial foot soldiers and mounted knights threw down their weapons and scattered, including the wrathful Zud who was showing his huge teeth in a perfect fury of frustration and holding his head which had gotten the full brunt of a large rock. Then Yari loosed the JumbleDogs. Commendium folk stood speechless at the sight of some twenty of the blue, bristling beasts, baying like something out of a nightmare, their legs churning the ground to dust as they made for the terrified Provincials. The dogs had herded the best part of the warriors into a tight group by the time the rest of the Grendels and their riders lighted in. the west end of the valley. Triumphantly, the stone throwers ran to the south pass and clamored like monkeys down the trail and onto the valley floor. Around their legs and trailing behind them was the loudly squawking 295 |
