Show to the MedBattlements. "Nay," returned Phrapp shortly, "no t i m e . . . ." "Phrapp, we must needs go to the Med...." "Thou hast heard that devil Chu," Phrapp said querulously, pulling his sleeve out of Brandon's hand. "We must needs go to the Tartars and warn them." Brandon stopped and stamped a foot. "Look ye, thou big lumbering idiot, look ye at the trail of blood thou h a s t . . . " But Phrapp was by that time far ahead of him and the android was on Phrapp's heels. Another corner disclosed a door and Phrapp reached into his longdoublet, pulled out his PassThru chip and opened the door. Nell whirred out as though in triumph and made straight toward the aircar sheds.- By the time Brandon caught up to Phrapp who was leaning wearily against the outside wall getting his second wind, Nell was investigating a clutch of aircars parked against the cloister wall. "Here," Brandon said, and put Phrapp's arm over his shoulders. Then the two men made their way to an aircar Nell was maneuvering herself into. Brandon heaved Phrapp into the back door of the car and got in behind him. Nell keyed the doors closed and engaged the motor. They were off. Brandon looked down at the rapidly receding ground and blenched. Then he closed his eyes. "Saint Isaac and Ida, protect us!" he whispered. Then he looked at Phrapp. The man was lying in an ungainly heap across the seat beside him, unconscious. "Phrapp?" Brandon said tremulously. "Phrapp...?" He leaned over the big man and touched his shoulder, then his forehead. "Thou wilt be whole again, anon," he whispered to the unconscious man. "All things will turn a r i g h t . . . ." 243 |
