Show One Pershing fires, second malfunctions One of two Pershing missiles fired from Black Mesa near Blanding, Utah, Tuesday night was terminated early in flight when a malfunction occurred in the missile shortly after launch. The missile was destroyed in accordance with missile flight safety procedures, and landed within the flight corridor near the launch site. It was the second launch of the night, and was fired at about 9:15 p.m. The first launch, at 8:05 p.m., successfully impacted on White Sands Missile Range. Cause of the malfunction was not immediately known. The Pershings were launched by units of the Federal Repub-Ilic of Germany Air Force, in 1 this country for the fall series \ of Pershing firings.
