Show 4 The Times-Independent Moab, Utah 84532 Launch Series Completed Near Blanding The U. S. Army Tuesday ended the spring series of Pershing missile launches from Black Mesa near Blanding. The final two rounds were fired early in the afternoon by troops of the 7th U. S. Army here from stations in Europe. Both missiles successfully impacted at White Sands Missile Range, according to officials at the base. A new series of launches is now scheduled to begin in mid-September running through November, White Sands officials said. A total of 16 missile firings is scheduled in the Fall series. Tuesday's firings, the llth and 12th in the series •which began on April 14, were fired from their mobile launchers at 3:01 and 3:25 p.m. 6, 197Q A8 ^ The Times-Independent Moab, Utah Thursday, Oct. 1, 1970 Four Pershing Missiles Sent Off Tuesday Four Army Pershing Missiles were launched Tuesday afternoon froir Black Mesa, 15 miles southwest of Blanding and impacted successfully on White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico*, according to White Sands information officer, Jim Lovelady, Launch times were 1:15 1:36, 3:10 and 3:34 p.m All operational test round* were fired by troops *>t the U. S. 7th Army. Tha series represented the second set of launches in the Fall series of off-range Pershing firings ia Utah. The participating troops were alerted and ordered into firing status only a short time before the actual launches. Launch times were withheld from the troops to test their reaction times. Observing Tuesday's ac-tion at Black Mesa -was Major General Edwin I. Donley, commander of the U. S. Army Missile Command, headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama. Tha general, formerly a Per-. shing project manager, vi-. sited the Black Mesa com, plex for the first trme since being named to the missile command post last November. Army officials at Black.
