Show The Salt Lake Tribune, Monday, January 12,1970 Special to The Tribune WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. -. An increase in the number of missile firings from the U.S. Army's off-range launch sites, in Black Mesa and Green River,, Utah, during 1970 is forecast by White Sands Missile Range planning officials. From. the Army's semiper- manent Green River complex, firings of the U.S. Air Force's multistage Athena research vehicle will be resumed in March, the officials said. Army troops will fire operational test and annual service practice rounds of the two-stage Pershing artillery ballistic missile from Black Mesa, 15 miles southwest of Blanding. Test operations in 10 other programs, each requiring its own degreee or range time and range support are scheduled for Utah this year, range officials said. These include six Air Force programs, three Army programs, and '. one project of the National Aeronautics and Space Administrations.
