Show Nettie, Page 17 for asking. Nettie moved close to her father again and he took the reins in just one hand and put the other arm around Nettie. She was content. The visit with the Bishop took only a short while. "Do you believe the church is true?" the bishop queried Nettie. "Yes, sir." "Do you agree to follow the counsel of your parents and the prophet and apostles?" "Yes, sir." "Do you agree to pay an honest tithe and attend your Sunday meetings?" "Yes, sir." "Will you pray daily to your Heavenly Father and let him help you in all your decisions?" Nettie glanced at Papa and wavered for a moment, but when the answer came it was clear and strong. "Yes, Bishop." Papa smiled. "Then I'm happy to recommend Nettie--Jeannette Peterson be baptized Lnto the church," and the bishop and Papa set the date for April 22, the very day Nettie was to turn eight years of age. April 22 was cold, blustery, and bleak with intermittent snow flurries, a reminder that winter was reluctant to leave. Papa took Nettie, with Brig and Henry as witnesses, in the wagon and drove the half-mile or so to the Bear River.
