Mama called to Nettie before she could answer. "Come along, Jeannette. The Bishop is a busy man. Don't tie him up with idle chit-chat." "Just a moment, Sis. Peterson," the Bishop stopped her. "I do have a bit of business to discuss with Nettie. Could you stop just a moment more while I talk a little with her?" Mama nodded and stepped back to allow a little more privacy. "Nettie, Sis. Carlton has a rather large Primary class. We .lot'.ce how big a help you areto your mama with Clarence and Alice and wondered if you would help Sis. Carlton in the same way with her class?" Nettie's blue eyes grew large and round. She was outspoken and forward but she did not feel overly endowed with the qualities the Bishop was suggesting she had. "Oh, bishop, I couldn't do that . . ." Nettie began and immediately felt a hand clamp firmly on her arm and pull her away. "Jeannette Peterson, don't you ever say 'no' to the Bishop. You just accept this call and do your best and let him be the judge as to whether or not you can do a job," Mama spoke quietly, but sparks flashed from her green eyes and her red hair seemed aflame as Nettie lowered her head. Turning back to Bishop Jolley, Nettie spoke. "I'd be happy to do my best, Bishop." Bishop Jolley shook Nettie's hand once more. "There's a good girl, Nettie. We know you can be a big help.
